A branding project, developing a new brand identity for RareQoL's EDIRA 2023 Conference,
a range of event materials and promotional social media resources.
RareQoL, a non-profit organisation based in North Wales, requested the support of Costello Medical to aid with a range of components for their one-day conference taking place in May 2023. The Equality, Diversity, Inclusivity Research Association (EDIRA) Conference would bring together ~100 attendees involved in rare diseases, academia, healthcare, public health and clinical research, to discuss inclusive research within the rare disease communities.
My role, as the sole designer on this project alongside three scientific colleagues, was to develop a new brand identity for their EDIRA 2023 Conference and provide additional event and social media materials to be used prior to and during the conference.
Developing EDIRA branding
A crucial aim of the project was to ensure the new branding complimented the existing
RareQoL branding whilst having a unique feel, to give EDIRA its own separate identity. To achieve this,
collaborating with the RareQoL team became a vital resource. Gaining insight into what EDIRA does, the importance of the research they carry out and the impact it would have on the rare disease community led to strong concepts that successfully reflected EDIRA's values and purpose – to bring together communities of colour with communities of practice in the rare disease space.

EDIRA Promotional Content
When creating both the social media posts and HTML emails, EDIRA's brand identity developed to include bold visual elements – with a particular focus on the use of curved shapes and striking accent lines. The inclusion of the face silhouettes also helps to reinforce the sense of community involved within EDIRA's research and conference.
Below are examples of the final social media post designs created for RareQoL to use across their social media platforms. Each post was developed into a different format for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter to ensure content was optimises to each platform's requirements. Alongside social media posts, four HTML emails were used to promote the conference to RareQoL's target audience – see two examples of these below.

EDIRA Event Materials
Alongside promotional materials, EDIRA's new brand identity was also carried across to event materials being used at the EDIRA Conference. Developing two roller banners, gave me the opportunity to explore how the bold branding would translate to large-scale designs and work to produce two cohesive yet unique banners. An attendee pre-read was also produced, allowing for EDIRA's branding to be developed at a typographic level.
